Pros and Cons of iPhone 5 in 5 minutes

17 Sep

ImageIt has a faster chip (improved A6) , which claimed to be double the speed for loading web graphics and which technically would not make much a different to me as the iPhone 4s is already ‘quite fast’ to me, I have no complains. However, I think that gamers would experience a smoother game play, while normal everyday app would get a tad quicker for non-gamers.

It also has a bigger screen with a 4 inch screen, which is larger than previous iphones with only 3.5 inches. The width of iPhone 5 is still the same as previous iphones since it fits the hands so nicely. Unlike my Samsung Galaxy Note with a 5.3 inch screen, it is difficult to even snap a photo with one hand.

It is also ligther and thinner. It weights 112 grams,  almost an ounce (28g) lighter than the iphone 4s. Nevertheless, they also claim it to be the thinnest smartphone in the world, at 7.6mm thin  (58.6-mm wide and 123.8-mm high) with all glass and aluminium body. In short, it is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than iphone 4s.

Moving on, iPhone 5 supports 4G LTE connectivity. 4G provides faster internet browsing. This is nothing special as most of the samsung and nokia phones out there support 4G LTE too. Though 4G drains the battery, but Apple seemed to have figured it out by presenting its impressive battery-life..

It’s battery life has also gone through a vast improvement. It could last :-

  • 8 hours on 3G talk time
  • 8 hours 3G browsing
  • 8 hours LTE browsing
  • 10 hours on Wifi browsing
  • 10 hours on video
  • 40 hours on music
  • 225 hours on standby

For the Cons,

They have changed the cord! It is now called the Lightning Port. It sucks that we can’t bring only a cord to charge all of the apple products. Also, it is not compatible with our old normal docks. Users have to cash out to buy so many new accessories.

The iphone 5 also requires smaller sim card. Iphone 4 and 4s are currently using micro-sim cards. However,  the i5 requires NANO-sim card, which is even smaller than micro.

The camera hasn’t improve much. The only additions are paranoma mode and better pictures in low light. Still the same old 8MP . So don’t expect editorial looking pictures from your iPhone.

iPhone 5 would be a good choice, but not a great choice.
